Yeon Moo Dae Church is a church housed within a Korean Army training center that draws from a unique mix of traditional and modern Christian influence. The construction of the church took ten years to complete as it relied upon singular donations from nearly 10,000 individuals, over 600 Christian community churches and just about 600 church-related organizations. Most recently, the church built a brand new sanctuary with a seating capacity that can welcome its 6,000-strong congregation. The room itself measures a generous 66-meters wide by 55-meters deep with a ceiling height of fifteen meters. The church committee knew well that such a big room required a big sound system, one that could cover the entire space with clarity and balance. After doing diligent research by visiting other large sanctuaries and listening to their sound systems, it was unanimously decided that Clair Brothers was the best brand for the job.

Performances by Marie Osmond and the Nashville Tribute Band were just some of the acts to cross the stage recently at the Ford Idaho Center Arena as part of Redeemer, An Interfaith Celebration. With audio for the charitable concert provided by Salt Lake City, Utah-based Poll Sound, monitoring onstage relied upon an Allen & Heath dLive S5000 Surface and DM64 MixRack.
“The challenge of this show was rooted in its fast pace,” explains monitor engineer Eric Kopp. “The nature of many of the performances demanded very active mixes.”
With seven members of the Nashville Tribute Band alone clamoring to keep tabs of their performances, not to mention the endless stream of guest artists, Kopp configured the dLive S5000 control surface so that everything he’d need from sound check to the final encore would be right at his fingertips. Building scenes beforehand for each artist, he moved his inputs and outputs into groups and then stacked them right next to his master for quick focus and easy accessibility.

Recording Your Worship Band’s Original Music

Once upon a time way back in the early days of NOW Church, I can remember our worship team using a four-track recorder as a way of multi-tracking original songs they were developing. This was an upgrade from our cassette recorder days, yet a world away from the processing power we have today. We never dreamed that nearly 30 years later, we’d not only be able to track up to 64-channels of crystal clear digital audio during each and every worship experience, but release original music recorded live and in-house on our own Avid Protools rig, not to mention also being able to release singles and albums so they can be streamed and downloaded literally around the world in seconds!
I remember researching nearly two decades ago what churches were spending to record a CD; as my church was interested in producing a live record. With he process of hiring a mobile truck and crew to track out and record, plus all of the post-production, mixing and mastering that went into it, it was not uncommon to drop $25,000 or more on a project. Many churches would never recoup that kind of investment through album sales.

At Cedarview Community Church, we teach God’s word, prioritize worship, welcome God’s spirit, proclaim salvation, seek God’s face, serve God’s people and have a heart for missions.  As we strive to equip the local church body to grow and to be Christs’ extended hand to the community and world, we aim to do it with excellence and purpose by directing all attention to Jesus Christ. It’s important for the church to be focused on God’s word and to honor its authority over every aspect of our life and conduct.  With that comes a heart of worship, a sensitivity the Holy Spirit in line with New Testament Scriptures and desire to reach the lost.

I have worked with Cedarview a few times. I actually attend the church and serve as their Technical Director, and over time – because of the age of the gear in the church – they needed to look at modernizing and replacements. In some cases, the church ran into emergency situations where gear needed to be replaced immediately.  As an integration contractor, we set up a stewardship approach which allows churches to plan for natural evolution for failure and obsolescence, identifying and planning for replacement equipment before it reaches a fail point.
