From Avixa:

“As COVID-19 impacts our daily lives, much of our AV community is looking at extended home office time. As part of our commitment to the industry in these unprecedented times, AVIXA is opening online training* to all AV professionals, regardless of membership level.

Effective immediately, we are waiving online access fees and Elite seat limitations through June 12. That means you and your entire team can now access AVIXA’s online training.

We hope this will give you and your team the opportunity to learn new topics, work toward CTS certification, or earn CTS-RUs if already CTS certified, even if you are home.”

Yes, you read that right! This is a GREAT opportunity for your church tech teams to really drill down and learn about the technology behind the gear they are using. Not only will it help pass the time, but it will make your tech team STRONGER, and your live worship even more engaging and technically impressive than ever before.

What You Need to Know about Truss Inspections

In Continuing Education, home_page, Industry News, Riggingby Media

Properly inspecting your truss will ensure that it is in safe working condition each time the truss is used.

The Entertainment Services and Technology Association’s Technical Standard Program developed the ANSI Entertainment Technology Standard E1.2 which contains minimum required inspection routines and guidelines for truss inspection. This standard is available for download at www.ESTA.org.

ANSI E1.2 defines three types of truss inspections:

  • Initial Inspection
  • Frequent Inspection
  • Periodic Inspection

Initial inspection is required when truss is acquired, whether purchased new from the manufacturer or used. Dated records shall be kept on file by the owner and maintained for the duration of the possession of the truss.

Frequent inspections are defined as visual inspections to be conducted prior to each use and immediately after any incident that may have in any way caused damage to the system or truss. Records are not required to be kept for Frequent Inspections.

Case Study: Cedarview Community Church

At Cedarview Community Church, we teach God’s word, prioritize worship, welcome God’s spirit, proclaim salvation, seek God’s face, serve God’s people and have a heart for missions.  As we strive to equip the local church body to grow and to be Christs’ extended hand to the community and world, we aim to do it with excellence and purpose by directing all attention to Jesus Christ. It’s important for the church to be focused on God’s word and to honor its authority over every aspect of our life and conduct.  With that comes a heart of worship, a sensitivity the Holy Spirit in line with New Testament Scriptures and desire to reach the lost.

I have worked with Cedarview a few times. I actually attend the church and serve as their Technical Director, and over time – because of the age of the gear in the church – they needed to look at modernizing and replacements. In some cases, the church ran into emergency situations where gear needed to be replaced immediately.  As an integration contractor, we set up a stewardship approach which allows churches to plan for natural evolution for failure and obsolescence, identifying and planning for replacement equipment before it reaches a fail point.
