Case Study: The Ceiling That Brought the Parish Together

In home_page, Image, Install News, Web Articlesby Media

Renovating a church can be a huge undertaking, but church communities have a major resource, beyond money, that they can bring to bear: the congregation. Father Prentice Dean, the pastor of The Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Arlington, TX, selected an innovative ceiling material and found that it brought his congregation together. He and his parishioners installed the ceiling themselves, replacing stained and yellowed mineral fiber panels with thermoformed ceiling panels that look like carved wood and create a welcoming warmth in the sanctuary.

St. Mary the Virgin was built around 1990 as an Episcopalian church. In 1994, the entire congregation converted to Roman Catholicism, but they were allowed to keep the building. It was a congregation of modest means that had limited the décor of the church’s interior to an almost spartan simplicity, and the white, 22-foot high ceiling gave the sanctuary a cavernous feeling.

Featuring a hybrid modular synthesis approach, PreSonus®’ Deep Flight One instrument library for Studio One®’s Presence XT sampler draws on rare and sought-after analog and digital synthesizers and layered field recordings, sweetened with legendary and exotic signal processors, to create a huge range of organic, deep, and inspiring sounds. Use Deep Flight One’s Multi Instrument presets straight up or combine its elements any way you like to create unique instruments and effects.

Deep Flight One delivers dramatic sounds, both tonal and atonal, from field recordings; percussive sounds and tonal and atonal soundscapes from classic modular synths; and otherworldly textures of the type much sought after by TV and film composers, electronic music producers, and others seeking fresh sounds. While each multisample preset can be used as is, the real power of this instrument is in the combination of multiple layered elements. Samples are raw material to be molded with synthesizer parameters such as filters, envelopes, modulation, and effects. By using sample-start modulation, controlled in real time using velocity, no two single keystrokes sound exactly the same.
