Surrounded by the scenic views of Alamogordo, the 800-seat Christ Community Church was struggling to provide quality audio with their aging and original PA. With the decision made to upgrade their system, the task of finding a modern solution capable of delivering great sound evenly to every seat was given to Technical Director Jacob Pierce. With a big assist from industry experts Michael Garrison Associates (MGA), Pierce found the solution he was looking for with a custom Anna and Otto ADAPTive system from Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW®).

The new EAW upgrade consists of a total of 12 Anna loudspeaker arrays, four Otto subwoofers and eight EAW JF8 2-way loudspeakers. The eight JF8’s are used as front fill speakers and are spread out evenly from the back of the platform in a trapezoidal pattern. The new EAW ADAPTive PA system is run through an Allen & Heath dLive console.

When church worship leaders, praise teams, pastors, worship musicians and their tech teams need to know what’s new and share their knowledge and concerns about how technology can best help communicate their message, there’s nothing like the Experience Conference. Held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida this year, the annual event hosts hundreds of leaders from around the country and across denominational lines at what has become one of the largest creative arts and worship conferences in America. There, they can connect in community with one another and become better equipped with key communications and entertainment resources.

This year, EC22, as it was known, saw a diverse lineup of familiar Christian speakers and musicians, including Contemporary Christian music megastar Chris Tomlin, Cody Carnes, Jonathan Traylor, Chidima Ubah (from Passion City Church), We Are Messengers, TaRanda Greene, Chris Brown (Elevation Worship), Jason Ingram, Matt Maher, David Leonard, DOE, and more. They also experienced some pretty amazing lighting effects, courtesy of AE Global Media, which brought state-of-the-art elektraLite fixtures as part of the audio, video, and lighting systems it deployed at the event. Specifically, a dozen elektraLite Stingray Variable White (VW) Profiles were used as broadcast key lights, 16 elektraBar linear strip fixtures were purposed as vibrantly colorful “eye candy” set pieces, and eight 30,000+ lumen output Audience Blinder warm lights instantly got attendees on their feet and into the mood.

When Luke Combs finally hit the road again for his What You See is What You Get tour in 2021, he was happy to be back in the spotlight after the collapse of his 2020 tour due to the pandemic. But this time, the spotlight will be a Follow-Me 3D Six system, which is being supplied by Special Event Services (SES) of Mocksville, NC, and Nashville, TN.

Jeff Cranfill, Vice President of SES, chose the Follow-Me system, and he said that the first thing that caught his attention about it was that it could be used with any DMX moving light. “That’s going to be a huge advantage,” he said.

L-Acoustics A10 Creates an Experience for Church of the Highlands

Since its founding in 2001 by pastor Chris Hodges and a core group of 34 people, the growth of Church of the Highlands has been nothing short of astounding. In that time, the multi-site megachurch has grown to two dozen campus locations, mostly in central Alabama and centered around Birmingham. In the process, it has become the second-largest church in the United States, with an average of over 43,000 attendees each week.

Now, its newest location, a 1,000-seat church on the former site of Gibson Elementary School in Birmingham’s Woodlawn neighborhood, reflects one of the ways that Church of the Highlands has expanded so quickly and seamlessly: the church’s AVL crew is a technologically savvy group of folks. Opened in September, Church of the Highland’s team installed a new L-Acoustics A10 sound system themselves using a design from the L-Acoustics Soundvision software. Backstage Productions LLC, the local AV systems integrator who sold the system, and BJ Shaver, L-Acoustics Director of Sales, Americas, provided valued help and input for the design of the new system install.

Digital Nirvana Connects MetadataIQ Directly to Avid Media Composer and MCCUX Through New API Support

Digital Nirvana, a provider of leading-edge media monitoring and metadata generation services, today announced that MetadataIQ, its SaaS-based tool that automatically generates speech-to-text and video intelligence metadata, now supports Avid CTMS APIs. As a result, video editors and producers can now use MetadataIQ to extract media directly from Avid Media Composer or Avid MediaCentral Cloud UX (MCCUX) rather than having to connect with Avid Interplay first. This capability will help broadcast networks, postproduction houses, sports organizations, houses of worship, and other Avid users that do not have Interplay in their environments to benefit from MetadataIQ.

Previously, only Avid Interplay users were able to employ MetadataIQ to extract media and insert speech-to-text and video intelligence metadata as markers within an Avid timeline. Now, all Avid Media Composer/MCCUX users will be able to do this. They will also be able to:
• Ingest different types of metadata, such as speech to text, facial recognition, OCR, logos, and objects, each with customizable marker durations and color codes for easy identification of metadata type.
• Submit files without having to create low-res proxies or manually import metadata files into Avid Media Composer/MCCUX.
• Automatically submit media files to Digital Nirvana’s transcription and caption service to receive the highest quality, human-curated output.
• Submit data from MCCUX into Digital Nirvana’s Trance product to generate transcripts, captions, and translations in-house and publish files in all industry-supported formats.
