SeaCoast Grace Church in Cypress used to produce live streaming coverage of its three weekend services with its HVS-490 HANABI video switcher from FOR-A Corporation of America. With COVID-19 restrictions in place, however, the nondenominational church can no longer welcome approximately 4,000 people through the doors of its main auditorium every weekend. Instead, it produces coverage of one weekend service, and has added coverage of classes, meetings, and additional worship during the week for various groups within its community.

Normally, the 2 M/E switcher is used to produce two simultaneous productions. The first provides coverage for the two I-MAG (image magnification) screens in the 2,000-seat main auditorium, as well as the streaming feed. The second provides a separate feed for the 1920×1080 LED video wall that serves as a backdrop for the on-site singers and musicians.

In line with the industry trend toward lighter and more powerful devices, Munich-based battery manufacturer bebob presents its new  and A200micro battery packs. Available as V-Mount (V200micro) and Gold Mount compatible (A200micro) versions, both feature 196 Wh and 14,4 V (16,0 A maximum discharge current) — combined with the lowest footprint in its class.

The bebob V200micro and A200micro Lithium-ion packs only measure 75 x 101 x 81mm – that’s about two thirds of traditional 200 Wh batteries. But even better: The new “micro monsters” are equipped with a lot of smart and unique bebob features, making the work-life on-set smoother and easier: An integrated LED flashlight can be activated at the touch of a button to light up dark settings. To power accessories, atop each Vmicro and Amicro is a USB port (5,0 V; max.1,0 A) with a sliding cover to keep the elements out.

Having been raised by a musical family, Carlos Henriquez was destined to find his passion for the performing arts. As a Juilliard Music Advancement Program (MAP) graduate with an impressive resume, Henriquez joined the Jazz at Lincoln Center orchestra in 1998. Over the past 22 years, Henriquez has been touring the world with the orchestra, having been featured on more than 25 albums. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck the U.S. in March, Henriquez found himself attempting to record music from home for the first time. In need of a high-quality microphone to capture pristine recordings in his makeshift home studio, Henriquez turned to MXL Microphone’s REVELATION II tube microphone.

Led by internationally acclaimed trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, the Jazz at Lincoln Center orchestra relies solely on acoustics, not using any amplification or monitors while on stage. With this style of recording, microphones are more important than ever. “For our performances, we solely rely on microphones, which are directed by our Acoustic Sound Engineer David Robinson and Audio Engineer Todd Whitelock,” says Henriquez. “When we first began working from home, I had nothing to offer in terms of sound other than my iPhone and laptop. I ended up capturing a couple of recordings on my iPhone, which Todd was able to work with. However, listening back, it was not the high-quality audio that we are accustomed to at Jazz at Lincoln Center. I knew I needed to do something about it.”

As an interdenominational, full Gospel, Pentecostal Church where everyone is welcome, Taylor Church (https://www.taylorchurchministries.com/) offers a series of innovative ministries designed to help everyone gain a meaningful worship experience. Recognizing the value of a well-designed sound reinforcement system, church management recently elected to upgrade their sanctuary with a new system that draws from the Event Series catalog of Valencia, Spain -based DAS Audio.

BDH Technical Systems of St. Augustine, FL, a full service audio – video design / build firm that services both the worship and commercial markets, was contracted to design and deploy the church’s new sound system. Working in close cooperation with their business partner, Invisible Audio of Jacksonville, FL (an authorized DAS Audio dealer), BDH Technical Systems penned the new loudspeaker system design that incorporated DAS Event208-AW 3-way powered line array enclosures mated with DAS Event218-A sub bass enclosures. Craig Bruce, a partner at BDH Technical Systems who also serves as the company’s primary system designer, discussed the project.
