First Baptist Church Covington, in Covington, LA, has been an important part of Covington’s spiritual community since 1904, and over the last several decades, their growth in membership has necessitated several facility expansions. Their most recent iteration of growth brought with it a renewed focus on reaching future generations with the message of the Gospel. Working with HH Architects and Idibri AVL consultants, new educational space, community space, and a new auditorium were constructed. When it came to selecting equipment for the auditorium, Chroma-Q and A.C. Lighting Inc. received the privilege of playing a role in lighting this all-important communication space.
“We make significant use of volunteers in supporting our services and events,” says Barry Carpenter, the church’s technical director. “Therefore, volunteer-friendly control systems are critical for us. Vista by Chroma-Q®, our lighting control system, is advanced and powerful enough to pull off complex shows for the experienced user, yet simple enough for the untrained volunteer to operate.”

Most recently he was approached by Meggan Mckenzie, creative director for Atlanta rapper Young Thug, to work alongside her in creating the production and lighting design, and bringing her ideas to life. He was soon dipping into the GLP toolbox in search of his solutions, coming up with the JDC1 hybrid strobes and impression X4 Bar 20 battens.

Citizen Heights Church is a contemporary house of worship reaching the north-western Washington, DC community. However, they were experiencing a mismatch between their style/ministry goals, and the ability of their lighting system to support those goals.
“We had previously installed an LED video wall upstage,” says Joey Olmo, technical director at the church, “and our front lighting was not able to adequately light those standing downstage from the video wall. Additionally, our lighting console was difficult to use, and without a lighting expert in the congregation, training volunteers to run lighting was problematic.”
The church invited Kingdom Technology Partners (KTP), a trusted service provider for several years, to discuss their lighting challenges and recommend options for improvement.
