b74dd15d-592c-416d-aa36-d186e02a2490Established in 1926, Temple Israel of Hollywood continues to be a beacon for Reform Jewish traditions and values. Today this multi-purpose cultural and worship centre hosts an increasingly diverse selection of events, with many taking place in its principal venue – the exquisitely-appointed Miller Hall.

The fully-equipped 5,000 sqft. ballroom stages a mix of live performances, cinema screenings and religious services. Clients are able to make use of an impressive AV infrastructure comprising over 200 channels of low-latency audio – which was recently the subject of a substantial overhaul courtesy of Hollywood Sound Systems (HSS).

The firm’s Brett M. Grossman served as digital systems design/programming lead on the project, and recalls that Temple Israel approached HSS with the core concept of “updating the digital technologies involved and moving forward with a networking infrastructure based around Audinate’s Dante networking” – the regular need to reconfigure the layout and change the mix position according to event type effectively demanding a flexible networking solution. Now, every physical input and output is individually addressable, while remaining space-efficient and allowing for the possibility of future expansion.

To meet the project’s unique requirements, Hollywood Sound Systems set about devising a system based around products from three familiar, Dante-integrating brands: Symetrix, Powersoft and Yamaha.

Glow to Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph

St Joseph CathedralA church is first and foremost a house of worship, but beyond that oftentimes it is also many other things to its congregation. Such is certainly the case with the Co-Cathedral of Saint Joseph.  A majestic 103-year-old building in Prospect Heights, the church is more than the spiritual hub for the 1.9 million Catholics in the Brooklyn diocese; it is also a gleaming symbol of hope for a neighborhood that is clearly moving into a brighter future. When Pope Benedict elevated the church to a cathedral shortly before his retirement in 2013, the diocese began an extensive renovation project that included a new lighting system from The LightTech Group of Jamaica, NY.

Central to the LightTech Group’s design were 18 Ovation E-190WW LED ellipsoidal fixtures that are used to cover the altar and key worship areas with flat, even fields of warm white light.  Illumination from the Ovation fixtures not only creates an enriched visual experience for worshipers at the 1,500-seat church, it also provides ideal lighting for services that are broadcast on the Catholic Channel.

Aaron Shust Christmas Concert Stage Colorized With CHAUVET Professional COLORado Fixtures

Christmas Concert3Music not only conveys the spirit of Christmas at The Heights Baptist Church, it also creates memories that worshippers cherish. A decade ago, leaders of this church outside Dallas made a decision to move away from theatrical holiday productions and instead have their Christmas season services feature concerts by their choir, orchestra and special guest artists. This year’s guest was very special indeed, as the church welcomed multi-Dove Award winner Aaron Shust, who performed on a stage that was illuminated in warm seasonal colors by COLORado™ 3P IP LED wash banks from CHAUVET Professional.

“The Christmas concerts with their special guests have become a tradition here,” said Bobby Dennis, Technical Director at the church. “In the past, we’ve had artists like Point of Grace, Andrew Peterson, Larnelle Harris join us. Of course part of the feeling we create on stage comes from the very lush holiday colors that light these performances. The COLORado fixtures were key in colorizing the stage for Aaron’s Christmas concert; they are our workhorse color wall and stage wash, performing flawlessly and never flickering, which is important because we HD/IMAG the concert.”

Pantano Christian “Makes Good Better” With CHAUVET Professional

In Install Newsby tfwm

pantanoPantano Christian Church already had a good lighting system, when its leaders concluded that “good” lighting wasn’t quite good enough when it came to creating the kind of engaging worship experience they wanted to offer their congregation. So they contacted house of worship design/build firm CCI Solutions of Olympia, WA to implement a comprehensive lighting and audio upgrade at their church.

Consultants Duke DeJong and Todd Gathany of CCI Solutions spent two days with the senior leadership and programming teams at Pantano, working with the church to define their vision and walk through their potential new lighting and audio systems, describing how each could help them achieve their goal. For the lighting side of the upgrade, CCI Solutions added a collection of LED stage lighting from CHAUVET Professional to the church’s system.

“Pantano was already doing some great things when it came to their lighting,” said DeJong. “However, there was a desire to add a lot more color to their lighting rig, and their dimming system definitely needed greater reliability. As we walked through each part of the new systems with the team from Pantano, it became clear that big out-of-the-box ideas were not only acceptable; they were encouraged.”

Among those “outside the box” ideas was the decision to replace the church’s old dimmable incandescent fixtures with two LED products from CHAUVET Professional: the Ovation E-190WW ellipsoidal, and Ovation F-165WW Fresnel; a move that DeJong and Gathany said took some members of the church by surprise.

CHAUVET Professional Helps Transform Historic “Scopes Trial Courthouse” For Tokens Special

tokens-afterGreg Persinger of Vivid Illumination has been involved in quite a few lighting projects over the past 20 years, but it’s safe to say that none were quite like his recent work at the Rhea County Courthouse in Dayton,Tokens-b4 Tennessee. Nothing about this event was “ordinary” — from the venue (site of the famous Scopes Monkey Trial), to the load-in process (gear had to be lugged up 2.5 flights of stairs), to the presence of actual prison inmates (who were at the courthouse for hearings) during setup. Nevertheless, Persinger was able to create a stunning and transformative lighting design thanks to the standout work of his team and a collection of LED color rendering fixtures from CHAUVET Professional.

NEW HOPE BAPTIST CHURCH BELIEVES IN ASHLY

In Install Newsby tfwm

New_Hope_Baptist_InteriorFounded in 1934 by a small collection of the faithful who opened up their living rooms every Sunday in the bustling Michigan town of Grand Rapids, New Hope Baptist Church has grown to a congregation of over 800 active members. To better accommodate its members, the church recently underwent a comprehensive renovation of its 750-seat sanctuary and associated overflow and ancillary use rooms. A new sound system centered on Ashly Audio processing, amplification, and user control is a centerpiece of the project and gives New Hope congregants exceptional intelligibility for spoken word, along with musical transcendence for the New Hope band and praise choir. Critically, the Ashly gear came in at a price point that allowed the church to meet its needs reliably, without breaking the project’s budget. Pro Audio Inc., of nearby Grandville, Michigan designed and installed the system for New Hope Baptist Church.

Central Baptist Church, Americus, GA Gets a Total Audio Makeover with the Help of GC Pro

GC Pro and Commercial Sound And Video take Central Baptist Church into the era of contemporary worship with a new sound system including digital audio console, in-ear monitoring and upgraded backline

CentralBaptistThe last time the Central Baptist Church of Americus, Georgia, got a new sound system, the church’s music was focused around the traditional elements of choir and organ. Times changed, and so did the church’s style of worship, which has expanded to encompass more contemporary forms of praise and worship music, with electric guitars and drums joining the joyful noise. These changes, however, made the inadequacy of the original sound system readily apparent. “There was more instrumentation and far more low-end signal to the newer music, and that exposed the shortcomings of the old sound system,” says Rodney Powe, the Central Baptist Church’s Worship Leader. “The style of worship and available technology had advanced, and it was just time to move to a new sound system.” That led the church to Guitar Center Professional (GC Pro), the outside sales division of Guitar Center that focuses on the needs of professional users.
