SeaCoast Grace Church in Cypress used to produce live streaming coverage of its three weekend services with its HVS-490 HANABI video switcher from FOR-A Corporation of America. With COVID-19 restrictions in place, however, the nondenominational church can no longer welcome approximately 4,000 people through the doors of its main auditorium every weekend. Instead, it produces coverage of one weekend service, and has added coverage of classes, meetings, and additional worship during the week for various groups within its community.

Normally, the 2 M/E switcher is used to produce two simultaneous productions. The first provides coverage for the two I-MAG (image magnification) screens in the 2,000-seat main auditorium, as well as the streaming feed. The second provides a separate feed for the 1920×1080 LED video wall that serves as a backdrop for the on-site singers and musicians.

FOR-A Corporation of America today announced Fairhaven Church recently remodeled the worship facility on its Centerville, Ohio, campus. The facility facelift included new seating for more than 1,500 people, updated house lighting, and a complete AV overhaul built around a new FOR-A HVS-2000 HANABI video switcher.

Paired with the FOR-A’s 3320OU large control panel, the HVS-2000 switcher has 2 M/Es and 4 MELites. The switcher is used to display graphics on the I-MAG (image magnification) screen in the church, while simultaneously providing live video outputs for streaming to Facebook Live, YouTube Live, and the church’s website. The Centerville campus also shares a separate feed of its worship services to its three other campuses around Dayton, while using the switcher’s AUX outputs to feed monitors for the band and crew members in Centerville.

As CEO and founder of Leading Edge Multimedia, David Anderson utilizes state of the art and cost-effective production equipment to record and live stream sporting events, concerts, business conferences, house of worship applications, and much more for his clients’ various needs. Anderson was looking for an extremely small, easily transportable camera with superior image quality and reliable streaming capabilities and he found the solution he was looking for in the CV346 Compact HD Camera from Marshall Electronics.

Anderson first learned of Marshall cameras through an industry friend about four years ago and has been using Marshall ever since. “Today’s current situation has highlighted the importance of being able to successfully live stream productions from various locations for a multitude of applications,” says Anderson. “Marshall fits the bill really well because they are so small and yet their image quality is on par with much larger, more expensive cameras. The Marshall cameras shade so well that it is very tough for the untrained eye to tell the difference between many of the extremely expensive, large format broadcast cameras versus a Marshall camera.”

A1 sound engineer Eugene “Geno” Mulcahy uses Waves SuperRack, Waves Axis Proton computer and Waves plugins for broadcast at the Vox Church based out of New Haven, Connecticut.

“Due to COVID-19,” Mulcahy says, “many churches, ours included, are now challenged with creating a high-quality web-stream/broadcast presentation for their parish. To achieve a smooth-running stream, we went along with a setup that includes a DiGiCo S21 with a DMI Waves SoundGrid® interface and a Waves Axis Proton computer running the Waves SuperRack plugin host and all plugin processing handled by the Waves Proton Server. We are streaming live, so I create a mix by using Waves plugins so I can manage all levels once I set them in. Waves plugins directly address the input level at the video deck, and I am able to set and get the most consistent output level to video. We also record all the services for a future broadcast.”

Custom Media Solutions, a live event video production company based in Cumming, Ga., has provided streaming coverage of The Orange Conference, an annual event in Atlanta for Christian family ministry teams, for years. With its backstage experience, the company created an online presence for people who could not attend. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced Orange Conference 2020 to convert from a live, arena-sized event to a three-day streaming program that began on April 29, CMS relied on its HVS-2000 video switcher from FOR-A Corporation of America to deliver a high-end production to a much larger online audience.

“We automated as much as possible using the features from the switcher,” said Marc Shroyer, president of CMS. “We had a couple of still stores with user flags and a lot of lower-thirds from the ProPresenter presentation system. We used DVEs for picture-in-picture looks that we could display on the multi-view at all times, so we could decide when to use them on the fly.”
