As readers of this publication understand more than anyone, houses of worship today are challenged more than ever with leveraging advancements in technology to best engage their congregations. Evangel Church was founded in 1933, with our current sanctuary erected in 1999 in our 100,000-square-foot facility. Always looking to stay on the cutting edge to best serve our members, we recently decided environmental projection would be a great way to deliver dynamic services in the 1,300-seat sanctuary. We have found that technology makes a huge difference in the churchgoing experience. The word of God stays the same, what you’re trying to present stays the same, but the way that you present it really needs to constantly be changing with the times. We’ve made a strong effort to bring our services up to speed without turning them into “smoke and mirrors” rock concerts, which wouldn’t connect with our entire congregation.

Crop1The Kirk, based in Tulsa, OK, is an evangelical church with a large focus on local and international outreach. The Kirk was founded 50 years ago and has two campuses, Kirk of the Hills and Kirk Crossing. Construction was recently completed on Kirk Crossing, which is in Jenks, OK, a suburb of Tulsa. The Kirk’s mission statement is ‘Transformed by Christ to Transform the World.’ We believe that in order to fulfill this we must follow Biblical teachings and first transform ourselves before effecting change without.

The Kirk is unique in the way worship is presented. At the Hills Campus, we have both a traditional and a contemporary worship space, and we run both concurrently. Each offer different music presentations (choir vs. a worship band), and also a different pastor in each venue. Our Crossing Campus offers contemporary worship, also with a live pastor. We have four pastors on staff; our Senior pastor who oversees everything for both campuses, a campus pastor for both the Hills and Crossing locations, and a fourth associate pastor responsible for small groups, bible studies, etc.

Welcome to New Beginnings Church in Orlando, Florida! We run a 9:00am and 11:00 am on Sundays and, before a single fader is touched, button pushed, or switch flipped, it is imperative to seek God in prayer, and ask Him to create His sound, His lighting, His video, and His worship! We must saturate everything in prayer, especially the technical! Everything we do, especially in a house of worship, is geared towards connecting people with Christ. This is why almost all audiovisual enhancements must be metaphorically invisible. Ultimately the AV equipment is there as a means to further enhance the worship experience, not to be worshiped for what it does. I am always looking for “low profile” gear that has a flat learning curve. Therefore, everyone on “the team” will feel comfortable operating the gear on their own, while maintaining the same standard of excellence. The Ovation FD 165 warm white Fresnel light by Chauvet Professional falls into that category of flat learning curve gear.

Specs for Techs

The Ovation FD-165ww features easy access dimming and zooming control, which can be accessed simply by double clicking on the respective knob. Having both 3 pin and 5 pin DMX input and output means flexibility! When plugging into a power source, there is an Edison (standard three prong wall plug) to Neutrik PowerCON connection (the blue and black round plug), and an output from the fixture with the same PowerCON connector, that works on a standard dimmer or via DMX.
