The 17th Kinderlachen Gala (Laughter Gala) took place recently at Dortmund’s Westfalenhalle, along with presentation of the KIND Awards – and the technical support of GLP.
Kinderlachen e.V. has been supporting needy children all over Germany since 2002. With the annual KIND Awards, the association also honours people who have committed themselves to children in need in a special way. This year the actor Ralf Bauer and the podcasters Patrick Esume and Björn Werner were honoured with this award.

The gala, which has been taking place since 2005, is organised by all involved on a voluntary basis. Since 2019, GLP has supported the charity event – this year as a technology sponsor.
René Geissel from artequip has been responsible for the lighting, set and stage design since 2020. After the Kinderlachen Gala 2020 had been produced without an audience, it was unclear for a long time whether (and to what extent) an audience could be admitted this year.

Elation Professional’s LightJockey is one of the longest available lighting control software solutions on the market. Now, after over two decades of service and with tens of thousands of systems in the market, the time has come for LightJockey to gracefully retire.

As ongoing security changes to Windows prevent LightJockey from functioning reliably, the decision was made to phase out the lighting control software with the release of Windows 11 in October. The last LightJockey kit has been sold and this iconic software – the starting point for many professionals in the business – will no longer evolve.

Located in the heart of San Diego, The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park is an architectural wonder on the edge of San Diego bay. Opening in the summer of 2021, The Rady Shell, operated by the San Diego Symphony, was looking for a reliable follow-spot system they could use during the symphony, concerts, and events held at The Rady Shell.

Jason Rothberg, Technical Director, and Lighting Designer at The Rady Shell understood the unique challenges that his venue faced. Being an outdoor venue, Jason knew that a traditional follow-spot would not be an option. While the original design centered around a brand-specific moving light and tracking system, the venue, sitting on the San Diego Bay wanted a system that would meet IP65 standards for outdoor use. The team at The Rady Shell worked closely with Jason Reberski, CEO of Chicago-based JRLX, and identified Follow-Me as the perfect solution that would allow them to use any IP65 rated moving light to meet their unique challenges.

GLP and its subsidiaries had plenty to celebrate over the Thanksgiving holiday as it reflected on an outstanding showcase at the LDI Expo in Las Vegas the week before, for which it was duly accoladed.
In collecting the award for Best Booth Design, GLP US president, Mark Ravenhill, said, “It was incredible to have been at the show, as an integral part of rebuilding our industry.”

As befitted such an important international tradeshow, GLP supported not only with local staff from its American office, but also had global representation from head office in Germany, including founder Udo Kunzler.

Among the product previews that drew so many to their booth were the impression X5 Wash and Impression X5 IP Bar, which took pride of place. “Both received an amazing response and customers and designers alike were pleased that we had prioritized our R&D efforts in the areas that we had,” said Ravenhill.

Elbow’s extensive recent UK tour – the band’s biggest in years – was brought to life by their long-term, award-winning lighting designer, Cate Carter, and her use of GLP’s powerful impression FR10 Bars.

A massive fan of GLP’s innovative battens, she says that while the classic X4 Bar 20s have been “confirmed favorites that have featured on all our designs”, she took the decision to step up to the more powerful FR10 Bar after originally seeing it at the LDI Show in the United States. With its ten separate sources of 60W RGBW LED, as well as other unique features, the FR10 Bar is becoming increasingly popular with LDs.
