Hitachi Projectors at Current – A Christian Church

In Install Newsby tfwm

Hitachi CurrentAfter the environmental projection system in Current – A Christian Church started to lose its color and strength, an upgrade was in order. Current’s Worship and Creative Arts Pastor Evan Schwartz chose the CP-WX8265 for higher brightness and a picture that would “pop.”

“There are two Hitachi CP-WX8265 projectors mounted to the ceiling and they shoot on each side of our platform in the front,” explains Schwartz. “They are in our main auditorium which seats about 525 at one time.” The projectors are used for both graphics and live video during services.

There were multiple factors in choosing projectors that would fit the needs of the church. “We chose the CP-WX8265 because it was a great HD projector to upgrade to without a huge bill to pay,” said Schwartz. “It was a much-needed upgrade from our SD projectors. You get quite the bang for your buck. These projectors can fill the entire room.”

Finding a projector that was easy to use was also a key factor in the decision. “The projectors are very versatile. It is very easy to use the Perfect Fit feature and the lens shift to get the projector right where you need it to be.” Schwartz also notes the projector’s ease of use does not compromise the quality of the projection.

The benefits the CP-WX8265 projectors have had on Current’s services have been multiple. “There are too many benefits to name,” says Schwartz. “We upgraded our lumen power by twice the amount, threw the signal less than twice the distance, went from SD to HD and made it much more clear to see what we want people to see. When people walk into our facility, we want them to feel like they are walking into the presence of God. These projectors help us do exactly that by giving people a clear visual of what we’re presenting.”

Assistive Listening and the Law

Should Assistive Listening Devices be Mandatory for Houses of Worship?

Many people attend worship services each week to be inspired. Yet, many houses of worship have acoustical challenges. Whether it is an HVAC system, reverberation, the distance from the pulpit, or the structure of the house of worship itself causing auditory problems, it can be difficult for congregants to hear the service properly, and this is exponential true for congregants that already have hearing loss.

Too often, congregants with hearing loss stop attending worship services because they cannot connect to what is important—the message. Assistive listening systems help people with hearing loss connect to sound in all kinds of environments, including houses of worship.

What Does the ADA Say?

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires certain public spaces to provide assistive listening devices. Just like access ramps help people in wheelchairs, assistive listening devices help people with hearing loss in public spaces, venues, and assembly areas.

Most houses of worship are not required to provide assistive listening devices to their congregants—under the ADA, houses of worship have exemption status. However, this is not the case everywhere. California and Texas both require houses of worship provide assistive listening systems to their congregants.

Philips Helps Renovate Centennial Covenant

In Install News, Web Articlesby tfwm

Centennial Covenant - 11First established in the 1980’s, Centennial Covenant Church has continued to grow in the South suburbs of Denver and in 1997 they found their permanent home in Littleton, CO. Now 18 years later, the congregation found themselves in need of a complete architectural and entertainment lighting renovation. Working with Cuningham Group Architecture, the architect turned to The MH Companies to create their dynamic new lighting design, which consisted of 18 Showline SL PAR 150 ZOOM luminaires, seven Philips Selecon PLprofile1 LED luminaires, and a 250ML lighting control console from Philips Strand Lighting.

“We moved into this site a long time ago and with two services every Sunday and multiple events consistently taking place during the week, we needed a full lighting renovation,” explains David Dillon, Music Director, Centennial Covenant Church. “In the early stages of the design, the church was mainly looking at the architectural lighting, but we also needed to address the entertainment lighting as well. We were looking for fixtures that could provide great color and clean gobo patterns, and the lighting and controls package from Philips Entertainment is working great.”

“We had previously worked with the architect on the project, Timothy Kathka, and we knew he had a particular interest in energy-saving projects,” says Tom Seymour, Controls Engineering Manager, The MH Companies. “With a house full of incandescent PAR cans and a layer of HID’s that were part of the original construction, the old lighting was anything but energy conscious, so we really had to do a full renovation and Philips Entertainment had the perfect package of lighting and control.”
