Bending Lite Productions’ Erik Mahowald has enjoyed a long tour of duty with American electronic musician and DJ Dillon Francis, noted for popularising the ‘Moombahton’ genre—a fusion of house music combined with reggaeton.

Last summer Erik conceived a lighting design for Coachella 2019 based around 60 GLP JDC1 hybrid strobes, but with the intention of bringing it to major headline events following the reveal.

Working alongside Creative Content Director and VJ, Mario Adato; Production Manager, Nathan Rebolledo and Tour Manager, Mike Finn, Mahowald programmed the lighting to animate a set that combined complementary surround elements with creating big moments of drama to produce a high octane party vibe for audiences to become immersed in. In the centre of this was Dillon Francis himself, performing from an elevated booth, housing his CDJ setup. The production team also implemented several other automated performing platforms for his trademark piñata to rise from behind him during his song Candy.

To celebrate Galway’s status as European Capital of Culture, Finnish light artist Kari Kola was commissioned to turn the beautiful Connemara Mountains emerald green and sapphire blue. The result—a massive artwork called Savage Beauty, with Lough Na Fuaiche in the foreground—owed its success to around 900 lighting fixtures, many from the GLP catalog.

With the illuminated area spanning 500 hectares (measuring around 6.5km wide and 700m high), this vast canvas is believed to be the biggest light art project ever created.

Thousands of college students of faith descend on Oklahoma City each year for the Student Mobilization Conference (SMC), 4-days of worship, camaraderie, inspiration and, in the evening, lively entertainment. Relevant Audio + Visual has collaborated with SMC the past eight years to create an inspiring audiovisual experience for attendees and this year tapped into their inventory of state-of-the-art Elation Professional luminaires to help create the uplifting atmosphere.

The 2020 Student Mobilization Conference took place January 2-5 at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City. Relevant Audio + Visual’s challenge was to create an engaging, impactful environment to motivate and encourage attendees to spread the word about Student Mobilization’s Global Impact/Mission and summer discipleship training opportunities. The Wichita-based AV production house designed a complete 3D visualization to fit SMC’s mission and budget, then provided, programmed and operated all audio, visual, and lighting equipment at the SMC Conference. Lighting design was by Brandon Deibler, Director of Design and Operations at Relevant Audio + Visual

Up from two-hundred congregants fifteen years ago to over 1,600 today, Ephrata Community Church in Ephrata, Pennsylvania has enjoyed the blessing of continued growth. Managing that blessing has been challenging, however. It necessitated increasing from one service a weekend to four, which taxed staff and damped the development of a full network of relationships across the community. Hence Ephrata Community Church launched an ambitious capital campaign to design and build a new state-of-the-art sanctuary that would accommodate 1,600 people. Local AVL integration firm Clair Solutions worked with the church from the very inception of the project to design and install a system that would capably meet their needs and provide room to grow while still keeping to a strict budget.

Clair Solutions’ relationship with Ephrata Community Church began with a small video project many years ago. The church wanted a new center projector and screen in their previous sanctuary, and Seth Morth, Clair Solutions engineering manager helped coordinate that purchase. “They appreciated our command of the technology and the way we worked with the people who will operate it, as well as our transparency and forthrightness,” said Morth, who served as the point person on this new sanctuary project.

When French record producer and DJ Gesaffelstein launched his utterly unique and breathtaking stage set at Coachella last April it created a blueprint for the huge Against the Night, Across the Time US tour that was to follow towards the end of the year.
Positioned behind the artist was a 32ft high monolith covered entirely in Vantablack, a fragile material reported to deliver the world’s blackest black, erasing any visible features on a 3D surface and making objects very disorienting for the brain. The UK designed material was being used for the first time in a live performance context.

In April 2019, the German singer / songwriter Lena Meyer-Landrut released her fifth, critically acclaimed studio album, ‘Only Love, L’. In June, the ‘Only Love’ tour of 12 dates took the band through small to medium-sized halls in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Designer JoJo Tillmann developed a reduced set with a scalable lighting design for single-trailer transportation. Although there were four musicians, two backing vocalists and two dancers on stage, alongside the singer herself, the show was not conceived to be ‘over-staged’.”I designed the set on a very stripped-down basis,” reports OPUS award winner JoJo Tillmann. “Apart from a small ramp leading up to a platform, there were no set building elements on the stage. As a result, versatility became all the more important.”
