St. Mary Magdalene Parish’s first mass was held at the Apex Middle School in 1999, and until recently, the school gymnasium remained the congregation’s makeshift sanctuary. While grateful to its host, the congregation needed a home of its own. At last, after two years of construction, the lovely new St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church opened its doors this year, welcoming a capacity crowd of about 1,450 congregants. To worshippers’ delight, every word spoken from the pulpit and every note performed by the band and choir could be clearly heard, thanks to a new Renkus-Heinz ICONYX IC2 sound system designed and installed by Cary, North Carolina, design/build AV systems integration firm AVCON Inc.

LD Thomas Gerdon finds lighting solution in powerful IP65 Proteus Hybrid™
It has been 500 years since Martin Luther sparked the Reformation and the German city of Worms, which played a central role in the movement, has been marking the event throughout the year. From October 27th to November 1st, a spectacular “Ecumenical Bridge of Light” was cast between the city’s St. Peter’s Cathedral and the Luther Church using Elation Professional Proteus Hybrid™ moving heads.

Lighting designer Thomas Gerdon was contacted by the city to connect the lofty Catholic Cathedral with the Protestant Luther Church in a bridge of light intended to express the bond between Catholics and Protestants. “Even though they are separate religions, they are still connected by the Christian faith,” Gerdon says of the reason behind the project. “The bridge of light was meant to visualize this connection as a symbolic meeting of the two great faiths in partnership.”

In Audio, home_page, Industry Newsby admin

John Stiernberg, 66, President and Founder of Stiernberg Consulting, passed away November 11, 2017, after a months-long battle with cancer.

A Chicago area native, John was deeply committed to his college sweetheart and wife of 45 years, the former Jeanne Broughton. Together they founded Stiernberg Consulting in 1993, a seminal business development consultancy within the music, audio-video, and entertainment technology industry. Despite his influential role as a guiding force behind many of the industry’s success stories, John maintained an intentionally understated, behind the scenes profile to keep the spotlight on his clients.

An accomplished bluegrass and gospel musician, John was an ardent music lover and aficionado, with an encyclopedic knowledge that spanned multiple genres and eras. He embraced technology with equal fervor, cultivating a keen insight and understanding of consumer and professional technologies. But it was John’s business acumen that informed his work, guiding the CEOs and business trajectories of the industry’s dominant players and rising stars.

stryper-3bWhen a big-name act comes to town, they’re going to want a big sound – so when heavy metal band, Stryper was scheduled to play at The Liberty in Roswell, New Mexico, recently, John Pennell, owner of Total Productions,  turned to FBT to supply a complete front-of-house rig. Thanks to a Mitus 206 line array and four Mitus 218A subs, the band was backed by a powerful system, and blew the audience away.

The Liberty is a popular venue with bands making their way from Texas to Albuquerque on their tours, but it’s also a rental space for private events. With this in mind, Pennell has always had to be mindful of the need for a versatile system. From day to day, staging is resized or removed altogether to accommodate the varying events booked at the venue, which has a standing capacity of 500 people. They currently have their own Mitus 206 line array, but Pennell supplements with additional boxes, as needed.

crossroadsikegami1CMOS-Equipped Unicam HD Cameras Connect Rapidly Growing House of Worship to Attendees Onsite and Online

When a house of worship keeps growing at the rate of Crossroads Church, it can be hard for new campuses to keep pace with the number of attendees. For this Ohio-based church with eight locations and counting, the answer was Crossroads Anywhere, an online presence that engages viewers with the precise imagery of Ikegami CMOS cameras.

Patrick Buescher, Director of Experience Innovation and Infrastructure for Crossroads Church, oversaw a video upgrade that called for eight Ikegami HDK-95C/4K Full Digital Portable CMOS cameras in their Oakley, OH campus and two Ikegami HC-HD300 CMOS Camera Systems at their Uptown campus in Cincinnati. “We are a church of many sites,” Buescher says. “However, it’s really not scalable to keep constructing multimillion dollar buildings. Crossroads Anywhere is how we can best create a church community outside of our Metro area network.”

Eiki Makes the Message Clearer than Ever at First Church Coral Springs

first_church_43smFounded in January 1969, First Church Coral Springs has experienced dramatic growth over the years. While the original church—known as Robey Hall—continues to serve a number of important roles on campus, a larger sanctuary was constructed and, these days, serves as the primary worship space. Rain accompanied by lightning are routine occurrences in Southern Florida and, occasionally, lightning strikes cause electrical outages and related issues. Such was the case recently, which required the replacement of the church’s projectors—resulting in the deployment of new equipment drawn from the catalog of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA-based Eiki International, Inc.

Creative Sound and Lighting Solutions of Cape Coral, FL, an AV installation company that is primarily focused on the House of Worship market, was contracted to specify and deploy the church’s new equipment. After meeting with church management to ascertain their goals and objectives, the team decided to deploy a combination of two Eiki EK-600U 6,000 Lumen DLP projectors, one EK-601W 5,500 Lumen DLP projector, and an LC-WBS500 5,100 Lumen LCD projector. Rob Robinson, Creative Sound and Lighting Solutions’ system designer, discussed the project.
