Choose Wisely: Ready to upgrade or purchase a new sound system? Make sure always to check credentials when choosing sound contractor-installers or equipment dealers. Are they really experienced audio professionals or inexperienced A-V salespeople in sheep’s clothing? How much professional experience do they have? Does your equipment dealer offer service and assistance or just a lower price? Choose a qualified local sound contractor whenever possible. Ask for contact information of other church clients, and make sure you attend other churches where the contractor has installed systems. It’s all about due diligence and good financial stewardship.
University Christian Church (UCC), located on the campus of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, recently upgraded its sound reinforcement system with Tannoy column line array loudspeakers.
Curt Taipale, owner of Taipale Media Systems (TMS), headquartered in Allen, Texas was tasked with designing the new system. He worked closely with SAV, a Plano-based system integration company that handled the installation.
“The existing sound reinforcement system was more than 20 years old,” explains Taipale. “I worked alongside Media & Technical Coordinator Jack Stewart to nurse it along for a time but it soon became clear that we needed to make an upgrade.”
Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. has announced the availability of Version 2.0 for Yamaha CL Series Digital Audio Consoles. This most recent update includes enhancements for sound reinforcement applications as well as mix-minus capabilities for the broadcast market, broadening the range of applications where CL Series performance can be advantageous. One significant enhancement in V2.0 is discovery and head amp control for the new, compact QL Series that also inherits CL Series features and performance. A QL console can function as both monitor mixer and I/O rack, for example, while a front-of-house CL console can remotely control the head amp gain of the QL console’s I/O.
In today’s church we have the issue that our members are made up from all areas of the community and in smaller churches we may not have enough skilled people to run the technology we would like to use.
