EAW: The Clear Solution

For St. Mary’s Assyrian Church Of The East

EAWSt. Mary’s Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East, located in Tarzana, California, recently christened their new sanctuary featuring an EAW sound reinforcement system. The new building replaced a church destroyed during a fire more than three years ago.

After the fire, a church committee began raising funds for the new building. Once that was accomplished, the design process began. It was then that they tapped Bob Ludwig, owner of Audio Techniques Pro, located in nearby North Hollywood, California, to design new sound systems for the sanctuary, the choir loft/balcony and for a small chapel located off the alter.

“When the committee approached me about a new sound system it was clear that intelligibility was a top priority,” explains Bob Ludwig, Audio Techniques. “It needed to be relatively simple to operate and provide some control of the system from the altar. I have installed a lot of EAW systems in churches and felt confident they had the products that would fit their needs and stay in budget.”

The rectangular-shaped sanctuary, which seats up to 500, features a cathedral ceiling, a tiered alter, a dome above the alter and a choir loft/balcony in the back of the room. From the flaxen-color Jerusalem stone floors to the stained glass windows depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments, the space was redundant with hard surfaces making vocal intelligibility a challenge.

Shepherd of the Hills Gets Mobile with Mackie DL32R

In Install Newsby tfwm

With multiple campuses across greater Los Angeles, Shepherd of the Hills is a modern church with a bustling congregation. In addition to their main campus in Porter Ranch, Shepherd of the Hills runs three satellite locations in suburban Los Angeles locations.

Shepherd01The West Valley campus operates out of a high school multi-purpose room in Woodland Hills. For Pastor Mike Johnson, part of the challenge is to create an environment that is anything but institutional. In a matter of hours, the entire room is transformed — draperies, comfortable seating, and a high quality sound system. “Our desire is, on Sunday morning when someone walks in, there’s kind of an ‘ahh’ factor,” Johnson explains.

Serial Mergers and Merger Churches Networks

1Contents-Preface-Chapter1-BETTER-TOGETHER

National surveys affirm that there is a definite trend since the 1990s toward a greater number of mergers. This is happening among churches of all sizes, with the typical example being in the attendance range of one hundred to two hundred after the merger

However, large churches are rapidly becoming new players in mergers, especially in multiple mergers. Some are even pursuing a pathway of intentionally adding merger after merger as a way of reaching more people and extending their impact. Most, though, are like Seattle-based Mars Hill Church, where Mark Driscoll is teaching pastor, which opened ten different new campuses between 2001 and 2011 (they refer to each campus as a church). Four of those churches were mergers. Mars Hill has a vision of fi fty such multisite churches by 2020, a portion of which will come through mergers.

The New Math of Mergers

1Contents-Preface-Chapter1-BETTER-TOGETHERArizona pastor Justin Anderson experienced a three-church merger in late 2010 and early 2011. The merger tripled the size of his church and left them all with a new structure, new leadership, and new name—Redemption Church (www.redemptionaz.com). Though painful at times, Justin insists it was the right pathway to pursue. “We are better together than we were apart,” Justin says. “When it comes to vision, ideas, leadership, resources, and prayer, 1 + 1 + 1 = 10.”

That’s the new math of mergers. And it had such a positive outcome that a year later, Redemption Church did a fourth merger. And they plan for more in the coming years.

The Five Steps to Training Audio Volunteers

In Web Articlesby tfwm

By Chris Huff

untitledTraining audio volunteers requires team evaluation, prep work, and facing fears.

Audio techs rise to the occasion to perform whatever task is requested, with one massive exception. The task of teaching is so daunting for many, it’s where they draw the line. Training volunteers, whether en masse or one-on-one, is simple as long as the right preparation work is performed and it’s entirely not what you think.
