Meyer Sound PANTHER Exceeds Expectations at Ed Sheeran “+ – = ÷ x” Tour Launch

More than 80,000 Irish fans burst into cheers of jubilation when the first pummeling chords of “Tides” opened each of Ed Sheeran’s two shows in late April at Dublin’s Croke Park Stadium. Though most in attendance knew that the shows were the first of the in-the-round “+ – = ÷ x” (“Mathematics”), Sheeran’s fourth world tour, few outside the production crew likely knew that the occasion also marked the global premiere of Meyer Sound’s new PANTHER large-format linear line array loudspeaker. Supplied by U.K.-based Major Tom, Ltd. and suspended from daringly conceived mast and cable net rigging, the system was anchored by 212 PANTHER loudspeakers. The Dublin shows also were the first anywhere to deploy a Milan protocol AVB network from FOH mix all the way to the loudspeaker cabinets.

Although the PANTHER-based system is substantially smaller, lighter, and more energy-efficient than would have been the case using Sheeran’s prior touring inventory, which was largely based on LEO® line array loudspeakers, everybody on the audio production team was confident that the new rig would perform with equivalent results. However, according to Production Director and FOH Engineer Chris Marsh, the Dublin debut suggests their expectations may have been overly cautious.

ADJ Expands Lime Par Series With Compact & Punchy Encore LP5IP

Launched earlier this year, ADJ’s Encore Lime Par Series of fixtures all feature the same potent quad color (RGB + Lime) LEDs. This ensures perfectly uniform color mixing when different fixture types are used together within a lighting design. Each model also has the same style of robust IP65-rated casing but features a different number of the LEDs. Following the original introduction of the Encore LP7IP, Encore LP12IP and Encore LP18IP models – with 7, 12 and 18 LEDs, respectively – the range has now been expanded to include the new Encore LP5IP model – which features five LEDs arranged into the smallest fixture in the series.

Each LED is rated at 20-Watts and combined in multiples they generate a potent output with an even, soft-edged beam. Through precise 16-bit dimming control over the four primary LED colors – red, green, blue and lime – the fixtures are able to generate a large gamut of colors and hues. The inclusion of the lime LED chip helps certain colors to appear more vivid and also boosts the CRI to an impress 86.2.

So, You’re Ready To Go LED…But Is Your System?

As time goes on, the market continues to develop new, more flexible and efficient means to light the stage with LED technology. Originally, LED lighting fixtures were not capable of producing a high-quality light output. We now have access to high quality LED’s that can produce light almost as good as an incandescent fixture while also adding some very beneficial side effects, like color changing capabilities, lower power draw requirements and low heat radiation. They are used in all levels of production, from Broadway to High Schools.

Because LED’s have become almost commonplace in the entertainment industry, we often take for granted the changes that they can require to our facility’s infrastructure. Most venues that still utilize incandescent lighting systems continue to do so because of the cost to change their existing systems to allow the use of the new fixtures. An LED fixture differs from its incandescent predecessor because it is more of an electronic device than a light. With that difference comes special requirements for proper use. LED’s require both data, in the form of a DMX signal, and power be supplied to each device.
