When the leaders at Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama green lighted a full renovation of the mega church’s 2,700-seat main worship center, the job of designing and building a state of the art, upgraded audio system was awarded to Blackhawk Audio. In addition to world-class sound and coverage, Shades Mountain also wanted to ensure that the new system was discrete in that it was contained within a very compact grill cloth area. Blackhawk found the solution with EAW and its ADAPTive line, including its Anya™ and Anna™ Loudspeakers and Otto™ Subwoofers, as well as its VFR89i Stage Monitors.

“One of the biggest selling points of the EAW ADAPTive speaker system was that in addition to its audio quality and excellent coverage, it also was low profile and would not visually overwhelm the sanctuary,” says Blackhawk Audio President Rick Shimer. “The previous look of the sanctuary had a very large ‘speaker cluster’ with grill cloth. Ensuring that the PA system was less obtrusive while also offering pristine sound was a main factor for this project; they wanted a particular look and we are able to achieve this using EAW’s Anya, Anna and Otto.”

When The Brooklyn Tabernacle, a multicultural, non-denominational megachurch, moved into its current facility in the heart of downtown Brooklyn 21 years ago, its three cluster PA system served the church well. As the years have passed, church leaders realized the need to upgrade to more current technology to continue to serve the needs of the church. The Tabernacle found the solution it was looking for with EAW’s ADAPTive System featuring the Anna™ Loudspeaker and Otto™ Subwoofer.

Today, The Brooklyn Tabernacle has grown from a handful of people to a congregation of about ten thousand who attend weekly services. The Brooklyn Tabernacle is also home to the world renowned 270-voice choir, which has recorded three videos, three DVDs and numerous albums, winning five Dove Awards and six GRAMMY Awards.

RADIUS (RSX Series) Loudspeakers and Subwoofers Deliver Intuitive and Straightforward Performance With Dante Integration

When construction began on the Xi’an Olympic Sports Center, home of China’s 14th National Games, officials wanted the modern 18,000 seat venue to feature a state-of-the-art PA system that would give every seat a memorable experience. With help from pro audio distributor EzPro International, officials found the solution they were looking for in EAW’s RADIUS (RSX) Series loudspeakers and subwoofers.

“In designing the sound system, the goal was to provide the same frequency response for each listening area and to address any unevenness throughout the audience areas,” says System Designer Zhang Xianjun. “We first built a 3D model for the stadium in AutoCAD, according to the architectural drawings. We then imported the model into EASE4.3 acoustic analysis software, followed by a 1:1 EASE model setup. We choose EAW’s RSX line array for its strong directivity, ability to optimize speech intelligibility and its overall fantastic sound.”

Flagstaff’s Historic Orpheum Theater Upgrades With EAW Speaker System

Orpheum Theater, Flagstaff’s premier venue for concerts, performing arts and all things entertainment, recently upgraded its 16-year old PA system. With the help of Sound Image, a full-service audio, video, theatrical lighting, control system, acoustic design and integration firm, Orpheum Theater’s Audio Production Manager Scotty J. demoed various systems. He found the solution he was looking for with the KF810P Line Array and SB818P Single 18-inch flyable subwoofers from EAW.

“The theater doesn’t specialize in one type of music or event, so we needed a versatile PA that could not only handle speech intelligibility, but also the decibel level of hip-hop and EDM shows,” says Scotty. “Numerous times, I was worried that we had been pushing the existing PA to its last watt. The older PA’s amplitude was never a problem as we could make it loud, but the coverage, because of the design of the theater itself and the number of boxes we had, just wasn’t adequate for the room.”
