The Institute of Professional Sound will celebrate the Emmy Award-winning success of Adolescence at this year’s IPS Pro-Audio Show on Saturday 15th November at London South Bank University, with a free seminar programme featuring key members of the show’s acclaimed sound team. The free event also showcases more than 90 pro-audio brands and services.

Celebrating one of the television industry’s biggest winners of 2025, the Institute of Professional Sound (IPS) is taking visitors on an emotional journey at this year’s IPS Pro-Audio Show at London South Bank University on Saturday 15th November. With eight coveted Emmy Award wins, Adolescence has proved as popular as it is groundbreaking, and the annual IPS event is marking the achievement with a seminar and Q&A programme featuring key members of the show’s audio team.

Along with Adolescence Sound Post Production Supervisor James Drake, the IPS Pro-Audio Show welcomes Production Sound Mixers Kiff McManus and Rob Entwistle to the show’s free seminar programme. Together they will unpick the challenges of planning, mixing and delivering an ambitious and dynamic one-shot soundtrack capable of taking its audience on an immersive journey through the programme’s core themes of misogyny and online grooming.

“The complexity of one-shot productions goes way beyond planning for individual scenes as the crew has to anticipate not just its immediate needs but also what comes next,” says McManus. “It requires an incredible level of planning, and transitions between scenes can be mind-bendingly tricky. The real challenge is moving seamlessly from one scene to the next with the resources at hand and every decision must account for what happens next. Some of the challenges are purely logistical, but it also affects personnel, such as who is able to come with you when you physically move away from the scene.”

In 2021, the same award-winning sound team won a British Independent Film Award for its sound design work on the similarly complex one-shot drama Boiling Point, a production that was directed by Adolescence’s Philip Barantini, and also starred Adolescence actor and co-writer Stephen Graham.

“Having a crew that has already worked out some of the challenges that come with one-shot productions made a big difference, and it paid off in spades on Adolescence. From a sound capture perspective, it’s vital to work hand-in-hand with post production because if you don’t plan it together, you won’t capture what they need. They have to understand what you can give them, and you have to understand what they need to pull everything together.”

Established in 2010, the one-day IPS Pro-Audio Show has become a focal point for the UK sound industry and caters for everybody working in sound across TV, radio, film, live events, education, recording, streaming and gaming. Still the only UK event totally dedicated to sound professionals, this year the show welcomes a raft of brand-new exhibitors, boosting its numbers to more than 35 international companies and expanding the number of professional brands on show to more than 90.

In addition to contributions from the Adolescence sound team, the IPS Pro-Sound Show seminar programme also welcomes HHB Technical Support Engineer Lukas Simma to the stage. “Post Magic!” will demonstrate and discuss the latest Avid Pro Tools and EuCon features for Q4 2025 and also include a dive into Sony’s 360 Virtual Mixing Environment software 360VME, as well as lots of the latest plug-in news.

As usual, the IPS is providing visitors with free tea and coffee courtesy of the IPS Barista, which this year is supported by Deity Microphones. With free registration, this year’s event takes place at The Hub at London South Bank University, 11:00 – 17:00 on Saturday 15th November 2025.
