Located northeast of Columbus, Ohio, New Life Church Gahanna (www.enewlife.com) was formed in 1985 and quickly grew from its humble start in Gahanna West Middle School’s music room. Today, the church continues to expand to meet the growing requirements of its congregation and ministry. To ensure the best possible sound quality for its ambitious music program, the church recently upgraded its sound reinforcement system, choosing the XL5i-P all-in-one compact line array system from Greensboro, North Carolina-based WorxAudio® Technologies, a division of PreSonus® Audio Electronics.

Creative Sound and Lighting Solutions, a Cape Coral, Florida, design / build firm that specializes in the House of Worship market, was contracted to design and deploy the church’s new sound system. “The sanctuary at New Life Church Gahanna is a big, open space that measures 100 feet by 100 feet, with a ceiling height of 20 feet,” recalls Rob Robinson, the firm’s co-owner. “Music plays a very important role in their worship services, with the choir and orchestra occupying a good 25 minutes or so of every service. The services are contemporary in nature, so it was very important to provide a sound system with a high level of speech intelligibility, in addition to excellent music reproduction characteristics. This is why we elected to install the XL5i-P.”

The WorxAudio XL5i-P line array is a two-way, high efficiency, line array loudspeaker that incorporates five modules, each with a large format, three-inch compression driver coupled to a stabilized proprietary FlatWave™ Former (wave-shaping device) that delivers clear, penetrating high frequencies over a predictable and controlled coverage area. These compression drivers are paired with dual eight-inch cone transducers in each of the five modules. Hence, each XL5i-P loudspeaker system provides a total of five high frequency drivers and ten bass drivers. The system delivers a horizontal dispersion pattern of 160 degrees and a vertical pattern of 40 degrees.

“The XL5i-P is the only loudspeaker system that we can trust to replace not only a 3-box center cluster but 2 additional outside edge speakers placed 30 feet to the left and right,” Robinson explains. “The XL5i-P’s broad 160 degree throw is quite extraordinary and is far more effective in providing even coverage throughout the room than the previous multiple-enclosure system was. The system is very musical, and speech is clear. Equally important, the single-cluster design minimizes line-of-sight-considerations and, as a result, does not detract from the aesthetics of the room.”

Robinson was equally upbeat about WorxAudio’s customer and technical support services. “The WorxAudio folks are very helpful and responsive,” Robinson says. “The day before we arrived, we planned a Skype session with Jeff Page at WorxAudio. Within 30 minutes, Jeff was on my laptop taking a look around, and he was able to provide a hang position within roughly an hour. We work very well together, and he is passionate about the same details that we are.”

New Life Church Gahanna’s new sound reinforcement system was installed in early December and was placed into service immediately afterward. Since that time, the system continues to gain the admiration of everyone who encounters it. “Since the system was first fired up, we’ve received nothing but compliments,” Robinson reports. “Eric Rice, New Life Church Gahanna’s Director of Audio Ministry, told me on the phone recently that it could not have worked out any better. In fact, down the road, the church will be looking to us to be provide AV technology for its future expansion plans. When one project leads to another, that’s as good as it gets!”
