Magewell has announced the immediate general availability of the Magewell Cloud multi-device management software. Flexibly deployable on an on-premises server or cloud hosting platform, Magewell Cloud provides centralized configuration and control of multiple Magewell streaming and IP conversion solutions. Two additional, premium Magewell Cloud versions also offer stream management features including SRT relay and protocol conversion.

Magewell will showcase the new software in booth C8508 at the 2022 NAB Show, taking place April 24-27 in Las Vegas.

Its rich feature set can also be controlled programmatically via HTTP-based APIs, providing systems integrators and third-party developers with exceptional deployment flexibility and integration possibilities. Beyond the efficiency and convenience of centralized management, Magewell Cloud is ideal for enabling technical personnel to remotely manage devices on behalf of less-experienced users.

Cowboys and Robots: Darryl Frank Takes Lectrosonics From the Old West to Future Earth

With five Primetime Emmy nominations and four CAS awards for sound mixing, Darryl L. Frank is a household name in production sound mixing in New Mexico — a state Breaking Bad elevated as a filming location. In fact, he worked on the blockbuster AMC show. Lately, Frank has been chasing actors on horseback in the acclaimed western series 1883, not to mention miking up Tom Hanks in the sci-fi drama Finch, which explores human-robot relations on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Instead of sixguns or lasers on his hip, Lectrosonics Digital Hybrid Wireless keeps the peace by ensuring flawless sound even under harsh production conditions. Frank’s rig includes Venue2 receivers, wideband SMWB transmitters and their dual-battery SMDWB siblings, SMV and SMQV high-output transmitters, and up to 30 R1-series IFB receivers depending on production needs. All frequencies are coordinated using Wireless Designer software.

On 1883, Frank served as second unit mixer along with Richard Bullock Jr. as first unit mixer. The first thing Frank’s cart had to stand up to was the environment. “We were outside most of the time, so working on this show was all about embracing the weather,” Frank comments. “Rain, heat, dust, 50-mile-per-hour winds, you name it. We shot a couple of days in Montana where I don’t think the winds ever dipped below 40 miles per hour. This made holding up booms impossible, and so increased the number of wireless channels we needed. There and in New Mexico, there were a lot of middle-of-nowhere places. At no time did I have an issue with any of the wireless.”

Good Help: Training and Trusting Media Production Volunteers

In Continuing Education, Image, Industry News, Web Articlesby Media

I’m a professional broadcast engineer and a minister. In addition to my weekday job at PTZOptics, I’m responsible for all media and audio/visual ministries at my church, Shiloh Ministries. We have a multicamera setup used for recording and live streaming, with all the productions effects you’d expect from a modern-day broadcast. We have the ability to track shots, introduce lower thirds, and even show social media comments. I’m also responsible for visual content used during the service, including video and slides. It’s far from a one-man operation, but I’ve been able to find plenty of good help by cultivating interest among congregants, creating a virtuous cycle of training and cross-training to ensure reasonable boundaries on my volunteers’ responsibilities. Over time, I’ve grown a team of volunteers I can trust to run a full-scale service broadcast without my help.
