When it comes to education, Monash University is focused on addressing today’s challenges for a better tomorrow—for students, local communities and global populations. Named one of the top 50 universities worldwide, Monash is continually striving to offer the most comprehensive learning regimen possible, one that puts student and professor connectivity above all else. So, when the world started shifting from analogue VGA video to HDMI digital, and their students required higher quality output from its AV systems, Monash called on Audio Visual Design Manager and Lead Architect Peter MacLean to overhaul the university’s sound setup.

Over the past decade, MacLean has worked with Monash University to define what a new AV system needed to do to improve the learning experience. Some of these requirements included natural, smooth and rich sound with high speech intelligibility, as well as reliable, consistent and easy-to install solutions. From there, MacLean designed a new set of standards for the audio-visual team to follow when implementing new systems—standards that continually get updated as technology improves and academic needs change. Based on these requirements, as well as exhaustive listening tests of various loudspeaker options, the team landed on multiple solutions from Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW®).

DPA Microphones has long been entrusted by houses of worship across the country to project the worship band performances and motivational sermons that captivate parishes. Offering unmatched versatility, quality and durability, DPA’s instrument, vocal and headset microphones are ideal for multiple applications at churches of any size. This can be seen throughout the U.S., from the east coast’s Our Lady of the Rosary and Elevation Church to Mount Angel Abbey and Seminary and Bethel Church on the Pacific coast.

Aiming to improve the quality of spoken word sermons, South Carolina’s Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church turned to Devin Sheets, Lead Engineer for audio installation company Alpha Sound. For Sheets, a key component of upgrading the sonic quality for any church is introducing solutions from DPA Microphones. In the case of Our Lady of the Rosary, this meant selecting the brand’s 4018 Supercardioid Gooseneck microphone, and two each of the 4011 Cardioid Condenser and 4060 Miniature Omnidirectional microphones.
