As Chairman of Monticello Baptist Church’s TV and Sound Committee, Rusty O’Neal knew it was time to take the house of worship’s video productions into the future by adding high-definition capabilities. This meant he’d need to upgrade his gear―most especially his cameras. Working with local AV integrator Delta Electronics, Inc., O’Neal sought production cameras with great image quality and accessibility that also remained within the church’s budget. A longtime user of JVC Professional Video solutions, O’Neal ultimately selected the brand’s GY-HC500U CONNECTED CAM™ production cameras.
Monticello Baptist Church has been utilizing JVC cameras since 1989. With the latest upgrade, the tech team now has six GY-HC500U cameras located throughout the sanctuary. Three are mounted on the balcony and operated by volunteers of the church, and one is located on the floor on a rolling tripod, also manned by a volunteer. The remaining two are stationary: one mounted under the balcony, providing a front shot, while the other is in the control room pointed towards the stage for a wide-angle shot. “These cameras really are the best option for churches,” says O’Neal. “The features ensure that we have high-definition, broadcast-quality video production in an easy-to-use format, while the price point helps us stay within our budgets, even with the addition of so many cameras.”
In recognition of their 50th Anniversary this year, Sound Productions (SoundPro) was honored with the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Milestone Award at the NAMM Breakfast session Saturday, April 15. Presented annually by NAMM President and CEO Joe Lamond and Music Historian Dan Del Fiorentino, the Milestone Award acknowledges association members who have made a lasting impact on the professional audio industry.
A national provider of professional audio, video, and lighting equipment, SoundPro got its start as a backline rental company, with Elvis Presley as their first customer. Over the decades it has grown into its current role as a leading national supplier of AVL gear, serving multiple customer segments with stellar service and industry knowledge. The company will be celebrating their anniversary throughout 2023. An event bringing together their team, valued customers, and vendor partners is being planned for October.
As Monitor Engineer for American rock band Journey and Account Executive at CLAIR Global, Josh Swart knows exactly what tools are needed to produce solid audio for live production. An early adopter of Wisycom SRL products, Swart began using the brand’s MPR50-IEM Wideband Receivers and MTK952 Wideband Dual Transmitters on tour with Journey in 2016. For the band’s current “Freedom Tour 2023,” Swart has also added the CSI16T Wideband Combiner to his workflow.
“The first thing that sold me on Wisycom was simply the fidelity of the units,” says Swart. “We set them up in the shop, in a scenario where you could hear them next to some competitors all at the same time. The competition wasn’t even close to providing the same caliber of sound, and that alone sold me on the brand. Once I got them out on the road and saw how unbelievably stable they were from the RF side, I was blown away. LED video panels have always been a challenge in the past, but the Wisycom solutions have no RF interference.”
