All Things Nerdy / All Things Church

For most houses of worship, the biggest concern when adding any type of new gear to your facility is budget.  Sometimes, trying to match what tech you want or think you need to actual money available can be overwhelming.

Barry Carter, the owner of The Church Nerds feels your pain. Barry works as an integrator full-time with churches to get them what gear they need with the budget they have. He is also putting together the Nerdy Church Talk Conference, a full three-day Church AVL conference geared towards empowering the local church through Audio, Video and Lighting.

Join with speakers from Elevation Church, Bethel Church, Lakewood Church, The Church Nerds and more in over 40 breakouts and five general sessions that include a full worship set by an Integrity Worship Artist. No matter the position you hold or volunteer in, you will walk away with a stronger foundation to help carry out the vision of your church or ministry.

Review: Martin Audio Wavefront Precision

In Audio, home_page by tfwm

By Nick McKinnon

First Pentecostal Church offers a variety of music during worship, from Southern-style gospel, to contemporary worship, and everything in between. Unfortunately, the architectural style of our facility is not conducive to great acoustics – high, vaulted ceilings (65′ high), hard marble surfaces, stained-glass windows and a balcony present a challenge. The sanctuary seats close to 3,000 and we run a front line of nine singers, a worship leader and a full band. We needed a system that would sound clean and bright, but be directional and avoid bouncing off the harder surfaces, but also reach every part of the room, and we wanted to avoid adding acoustical treatments, so we needed to choose the best system for our facility.

I was drawn to Martin Audio because of the quality of their control. We were able to run a demo of their MLA system before making any purchasing decisions, and it became apparent very quickly that Martin Audio products would do everything we needed them to do. As we were waiting for the quote on the MLA from Clark, they told us Martin Audio’s Wavefront would also be available. We were able to go to Infocomm to see a comparison of the MLA and the Wavefront side-by-side, and made the decision to go for the Wavefront Precision system.

InfoComm Demo Prompts Switch from a Line Array to a Danley Sound Labs Point Source

In Audio, home_page, Install News, Uncategorized by Chris Hardin

Sid Gattis, owner of Gattis Pro Audio, was all set to install a top-notch, state-of-the-art line array system at First Baptist Church in Lincolnton, North Carolina – as he had done in scores of other churches – when fate intervened. Gattis attended InfoComm and heard Danley Sound Lab’s new SM-80F point-source loudspeaker with built-in subwoofer support. Designed by pioneering acoustician Tom Danley and his team of engineers using several of their patented technologies, the SM-80F provides remarkably even coverage, well-defined pattern control, and articulate, high-fidelity audio. Gattis had always been sober-minded about the limitations of even the best line array systems, and he saw that the Danley SM-80Fs would save the church $12k, provide higher-quality sound, and – at half the size of the line array – limit the visual impact to First Baptist Church’s aesthetic.

ICONYX is a Perfect Fit for Gulf Coast Church

In Audio, home_page, Install News by Darryl Kirkland

Nestled midway between New Orleans and Pensacola, Ocean Springs has a well-deserved reputation as one of the Gulf Coast’s more laid back beach communities. Voted one of the ten Happiest Seaside Towns by Coastal Living in 2015, its historic and sheltered downtown is home to numerous art galleries and shops. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina thrust Ocean Springs into the public eye, with photos of devastation including the badly damaged Biloxi Bay Bridge making national and international news.

First Presbyterian Church has been a part of the Ocean Springs community since the late 19th century. The church’s current sanctuary, dedicated in August of 1995, recently underwent a major remodeling and expansion, including a balcony and additional seating, as well as a new audio and video system centered around a pair of Renkus-Heinz Iconyx IC24-RN digitally steered array loudspeakers.
