DPA Microphones Celebrates the Spirit of Christmas on Tour with GRAMMY® Award-Winning Singer/Songwriter Amy Grant

In Audio, home_page, Industry News by Chris Hardin

As one of the music industry’s most highly respected studio and live mixing engineers, Russ Long recently embarked on the Christmas with Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith tour, which also features Jordan Smith, Season 9 winner of The Voice. Long needed a microphone that would capture Grant’s soft vocals without any handling noise. The solution was DPA Microphones’ d:facto™ Vocal Microphone.

Long has been using DPA mics for over a decade, but only recently tried out the d:facto vocal mic. “This past spring was my first time using the d:facto vocal mic,” says Long. “Amy’s voice is amazing and it sounds great through pretty much any mic I’ve heard her sing into. The challenge is, she sings extremely soft, so off-axis rejection is a big consideration, as is handling noise. Since she’s singing soft, the mic preamp has to be cranked up, so a mic that is only slightly susceptible to handling noise with another vocalist becomes a significant concern with Amy. Ryan Lewis, who was my system tech last year, has golden ears and insisted I give the d:facto a try. Once I did, there was no going back. It has virtually no handling noise at all and it sounds simply stunning.”

AGI Installs NEXO and Yamaha for Lawton First Assembly

In Audio, home_page, Install News by Chris Hardin

Lawton First Assembly located in Lawton, Oklahoma has a 10-year history with AGI Professional of Eugene, Oregon. “We needed an AVL company that would understand what our needs were,” states Senior Pastor Don Barnes. “Our church was so outdated, we even had the original red carpet. We were in need of a facelift and without a large budget, AGI always looks ahead so we don’t spend money on products that would soon be obsolete. Greg Slape (AGI owner) knows the church as well as he knows the technology.” The company was again chosen to specify and install complete audio, video, and lighting systems first in the youth auditorium followed by the sanctuary.

The youth auditorium consists of stereo left/right NEXO GEO S1210 arrays, five per side, a NEXO GEO S1230 per side, four PS8 speakers for front fills, four PS10s used as monitor wedges, and two RS18 subwoofers. The center speech array consists of eight NEXO GEO S8s, a Yamaha M7CL-48 Digital Audio Console, and Panasonic video projection.

PreSonus® Mixer and Loudspeaker Technology Brings Clarity to Worship Services at New Hope Presbyterian Church (EPC)

New Hope Presbyterian Church (EPC) exists to teach and live the Gospel of Christ and bring His Kingdom’s presence to one another throughout the community. With the recent completion of their new sanctuary, worshippers enjoy a beautiful, inspiring environment. To ensure superior audio performance, church management elected to install a StudioLive 32.4.2AI digital mixing console and two WorxAudio X3 compact all-in-one line array enclosures—all drawn from the equipment catalog of Baton Rouge, LA-based PreSonus Audio Electronics (www.presonus.com).

Creative Sound and Lighting Solutions of Cape Coral, FL, an AV installation company that services the house of worship, education, entertainment park, and performance hall markets, was contracted to design and deploy the new sound reinforcement system. After meeting with church management to ascertain their objectives, the team determined the PreSonus equipment would be an excellent fit for this project, at which point, they coordinated with PreSonus’ Commercial Division to secure the products and obtain suggestions as to how the gear could best be utilized. Creative Sound co-owner Rob Robinson, who is actively involved in both the company’s sales and installation activities, discussed the project.

Willow Creek Community Church Gets Massive Audio System Upgrade Including Focusrite RedNet Components

In Audio, home_page, Install News by Chris Hardin

Willow Creek Community Church is among the largest worship facilities in the U.S., serving a weekly congregation of 26,000 in the Chicagoland area. The church’s 800,000-square-foot main campus, located in South Barrington, Illinois, recently underwent a major upgrade to its AV systems, including Yamaha FOH, monitor and broadcast consoles, a robust Dante™ network infrastructure, Cisco network switches, Meyer Sound MILO and M2D systems and much more. Helping to distribute the audio between each location is a number of RedNet Dante-networked audio interfaces from Focusrite.

As with many modern churches, AV production takes a central role in worship, including video screens and closed-circuit feeds, broadcast and streaming, and more. Matt Wentz, who has been with the church for the past 11 years and for the past six the Audio Systems Engineer, notes, “Our whole production team is as many as 30 people total, and they’re broken up into three smaller crews. We updated our video systems last year, and it was important we upgrade the audio to keep up. Dante was clearly the right solution as far as networking such a big campus, and we were running into some conversion issues here and there. After doing extensive research, I acquired a RedNet 6 interface, and the rest sort of came together piece by piece.”
