LCBC FUJINON Lens UseManheim, PA-based church, Lives Changed by Christ (LCBC), a house of worship that delivers high-definition live video of services from its broadcast campus to multiple locations throughout central Pennsylvania, recently upgraded its video imaging capabilities with the acquisition of two FUJINON XA55x9.5BESM 2/3-inch studio/field zoom and one XA22x7BES compact studio lens from the Optical Devices Division of LCBC FUJINON Lens UseFUJIFILM North America Corporation. The new lenses are used on Ikegami HDK-95C cameras within the broadcast campus’ auditorium to capture weekend gatherings that are sent live to satellite campuses.

“While our broadcast campus is our largest campus, more than half of our attendees call a video venue campus their home,” explained Sean McDermott, Production Manager, LCBC. “This requires an investment in equipment that will enhance our gathering experience for our regular attendees as well as first-time guests. In order for our model of one church in multiple locations to succeed, it’s important that people have an excellent experience watching the message via video.”

The lens selection was determined by Clair Solutions, an audio/video and lighting integrator also based in Manheim, who provided system design and integration services for LCBC. “We greatly value the advice of our integrator, so their feedback on the quality support that comes from FUJIFILM was a big part of this decision,” McDermott added. “While the environment our cameras and lenses reside in is much more stable than other customers like mobile production companies, knowing their reputation of superior technical support was key.”

Clair Solutions installed the original A/V system at the church in 2003, later expanded the design to support LCBC’s growing multi-site requirements as well as its satellite uplink delivery service. For the new upgrade, technical support response, image stabilization, particularly for tight shots, and compatibility with projection system lenses were the top criterion that led to the selection of FUJINON lenses for LCBC.

“Close attention was paid to the acquisition and delivery of signals with regard to camera lenses and projector lenses working together to minimize areas out of focus and maintain the desired sense of depth to enhance the sense of willing disbelief for all image delivery,” LCBC FUJINON Lens Use-2said Seth Morth, Senior Video System Designer, Clair Solutions. Morth added that the Ikegami cameras’ ability to read correction information directly from the lenses allows church camera operators to maintain a fuller focus through the zoom range.

“The lenses feel like a complete partner with the new Ikegami camera bodies,” agreed McDermott. “The look, control and function of the lenses is seamless with the camera. I know we’ll be using these lenses for the next decade.”

With a focal length from 9.5 to 525mm (or 19.0 to 1050mm with a 2x extender), the XA55x9.5 zoom offers outstanding optical performance. This lens is available with a built-in lens support bracket for mounting on an ENG-style camera. Optical image stabilization is standard, making it ideal for any application where the camera operator must maintain a rock steady close up shot for long periods, such as sporting events, houses of worship, corporate presentations, or concerts. A 16-bit encoder outputs zoom, focus position and other lens data – allowing it to combine CGI seamlessly with live images.

The XA22x7BES is a compact studio lens designed for ENG-style cameras. It features a wide angle, high optical quality, fast, quiet and precise servo zoom and focus. The lens comes standard with a support bracket, RS-232 port for robotics, and remotely controlled 2X range extender.
