1Contents-Preface-Chapter1-BETTER-TOGETHERMergers as a Strategy for Change

Wherever churches have existed for more than a few decades, there is a potential for healthy and fruitful church mergers. Jesus said, “I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18). Jesus is building his church, a prevailing church at that. His desire for his bride is that she be healthy, unified, collaborative, and effective. All local churches—the strong, the stable, the stuck, and the struggling ones—are churches that Jesus loves.

Colorado College Chapel Installation Sums Up Tectonic DML Loudspeaker Advantages

In Web Articlesby tfwm

Colorado College InstalColorado Springs, CO based AV company Sight + Sound Technologies recently installed a five-panel PL-11 Distributed Mode Loudspeaker (DML) system in Shove Memorial Chapel at Colorado College. The process from live demo to final installation relied on virtually every unique capability that Tectonic panels provide.

The design mandate was to provide a speaker system that was highly intelligible, feedback resistant, providing equal frequency and volume coverage to all areas of the space and respectful of the architecture. The chapel is a natural stone construction in the traditional design of gothic cathedrals; with an arching ceiling, long and narrow nave and fairly wide perpendicular transepts. The resulting acoustics characteristics are highly reverberant.

The Tectonic advantage started with the ability to demonstrate the speakers on-site. After a preliminary walk-through, Tectonic’s demo team rolled in two 25’ lifts and placed a pair of PL-11s very nearly to their eventual positions to prove-out the concept and perform real-time listening tests. The Tectonic DML method of propagating audio performed very well in this large and reverberant space.

AQAV is an organization that is dedicated to improving the operational art of designing and installing audio visual technology. Engineered audio visual systems continue to become more complex and difficult to integrate. By focusing on the quality management of these systems, and of those who design and install them, we can benefit the AV industry and all its stakeholders: including clients and users of AV technology, AV designers and installers, equipment manufacturers, related construction and architectural firms, and the environment. The AQAV Certification program is designed to deliver zero defect AV systems the first time; every time.

60,000 get the message in Naples with Outline

Pope Francis’s sermon condemning crime and pollution heard loud and clear thanks to Outline

1During one of his recent pastoral visits nearer to “home”, globetrotting Pope Francis celebrated mass before a congregation of approximately 60,000 in Naples’ Piazza del Plebiscito. The event was also followed by crowds on nine mega-screens installed in other parts of the city.

Sound reinforcement for the event (featuring a 200-strong choir and a 35-member orchestra), was provided by Dee Jay Service and featured an all-Outline set-up.

The system comprised forty Butterfly modules (a main system with 8-module left and right main hangs and a pair of delay towers, each with twelve enclosures). A pair of DBS18-2 subwoofers were installed under each of the four arrays and four Doppia systems were used on front-fill and out-fill chores. The monitor set-up featured two DVS 8, positioned alongside the Pope’s chair, and a H.A.R.D. 115 for sidefill purposes at each corner of the stage.

Biblical Basis for Mergers

Where do we find mergers in the Bible? The word isn’t there but the concept is supported throughout Scripture. The Apostle Paul taught there is “one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all” (Eph. 4:4–5). The Psalmist declared “how good and pleasant it is when God’s people dwell together in unity!” (Ps. 133:1). The entire drama of the New Testament is the story of God bringing diverse groups together toward that divine reality.

Jesus talks of having “other sheep” (Gentiles) that need to be brought into the flock (John 10:16). He said that the temple should be a house of prayer for all nations, not just his own ethnic group (Mark 11:17). The Book of Acts demonstrates a wide variety of people groups that are all brought into one church to the point, as Paul explains later, that in Christ “there is no longer any distinction between Gentiles and Jews, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarians, savages, slaves, and free, but Christ is all, Christ is in all” (Col. 3:11, Good News Translation). Paul explains how Gentiles have been “grafted” into the same vine as the Jews (Rom. 11:17), and how God “brought Jews and Gentiles together as though we were only one person . . . when he united us in peace . . . by uniting Jews and Gentiles in one body” (Eph. 2:15–16). The Church is even likened to the union of male and female when forming a marriage (Eph. 5:22–32).
