First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro Chooses Renkus-Heinz Iconyx for Historic Sanctuary

In Install Newsby tfwm

img-0955-2Founded in 1824, First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, North Carolina serves a congregation of over 2,700, with 3 pastors and a staff of 40. Its beautiful, historic sanctuary, built in 1928, seats 1,560 and features an organ with more than 6,800 pipes.

In 2012, the church embarked on a $15 million renovation to its sanctuary and an adjoining building, including a major upgrade to the sanctuary sound system. For the A/V upgrade, First Presbyterian called on systems integrator Audio & Light of Greensboro and system designer Curtis Kasefang of Theatre Consultants Collaborative, based in Chapel Hill, NC. The renovation took two years to complete; the first post-renovation service was held Sunday, December 21, 2014.

Designed in the Southern French Gothic style, the sanctuary is in the traditional form of a cross. It presents a 160-foot-long center aisle and an 85-foot ceiling with lots of angles, as well as dual lofts with pews, a rear balcony that is 33 feet above the floor, multiple alcoves, a pair of 64-foot-long transepts, and plenty of glass and hard surfaces. The choir sits in pews that are perpendicular between the pulpit and lectern areas. The room is stunning but the acoustics are complex.

The Custom In-Ear Revolution

In Extras, Web Articlesby tfwm

Philippe DepallensWe talk with Philippe Depallens discusses how new cutting-edge technology at Ultimate Ears makes getting customs made easier for musicians than ever before.

TFWM: Tell us a bit about Ultimate Ears.

Philippe: When UE was founded, it focused more on just a few products, and about three years ago we decided that just focusing on products wasn’t a good long term investment strategy. We decided we needed to understand our customer and their needs better, in order to delight the customer at all their touch points. We believe we have the opportunity at every touch point to either impress or disappoint a customer, and there is no single point in this stage that isn’t as important as any other stage. We constantly gather feedback from our customers on how we are doing, where they’re at, etc. We review the feedback we’re getting, the issues they’re facing, etc. and make their journey with us easier.
Over the last three years we’ve decided to reinvent UE and have become true partners with musicians on all levels. What we’re trying to do is make the customer journey the best it can be, from research to purchase and, finally, the customer support we offer. Our goal is to remove any barriers related to purchasing and owning a custom In-ear monitor, and make using in-ears so easy that it’s almost a no-brainer for people to move to monitor mixers.

TFWM: UE has revolutionized the way custom in-ears are made. Tell us about this new process.

EIKI Appointed as N. American Distributor for ATEN

In Web Articlesby tfwm

ATEN International, the world-leading designer and manufacturer of advanced
connectivity and management solutions, recently appointed Eiki International, Inc. as a North American Distributor for its VanCryst(TM) Professional A/V Product line.

We recently spoke with Steve Rubery CTS, Manager of New Business Development for Eiki International, Inc., about what this means not only for Eiki, but for the House of Worship market as well.

TFWM: This is big news, Steve. How did this partnership come about?

Steve: Last year, I started looking for a company that we could start working with to provide connection solutions i.e. Cat5 extenders to our dealers and the many HoW we work with, and ATEN was one of the companies we looked at. However, the more I learned about ATEN and the wide range of products they have, the more apparent it became that we needed to be working together.
Working with ATEN is a great fit; HoW can now buy what they need through one point of contact, which not only makes it easier for them, it also provides a better value for them when they make their purchases.

Understanding Projector Lenses

In Web Articlesby tfwm

SCOTT BURKHARDT CANON HEADSHOTWe recently had the opportunity to speak with Scott Burkhardt, Marketing Manager at Canon U.S.A., Inc., about the importance a proper lens plays in HoW projection. Not only does he explain the importance of lens ‘numbers’ and what they mean, he goes into great detail about throw ratio, focal length and lens shift – all important points to understand before you purchase your projector lens. Make sure to check out the first part of our interview in our April issue, online soon!

TFWM: We see all these “numbers” relative to projection lenses on a lens spec sheet – can you please explain what these mean in practical terms?

SCOTT: Of course. Each of those numbers is important, and depending upon the application often times some numbers are much more important, so let’s take a closer look. To make this easier let’s use the “numbers” behind our Standard Zoom Lens as our example (please note these numbers are based on usage with Canon’s new REALiS WUX6000 Installation Projector).
