Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Gig Harbor, Washington, recently converted the visual platform in their main worship space from a traditional projector and screen system to Elation EZ Series LED video screens, a high-resolution system designed, integrated and installed by Agility AVL (http://agilityavl.com).

Church personnel were looking to replace a pair of 10,000 lumen projectors whose optics were going bad and initially looked at two 15,000 lumen projectors as replacements. “The church was ready to go with projectors and they seemed to have already had their mind set on it,” states Agility’s Kevin Hill, account manager on the project. “They had a few companies come in with projectors but there were issues with the ambient light that comes in from some windows overhead that can wash out the screens. Although the new projectors looked good they just weren’t bright enough. They didn’t look great and just didn’t blow you away like they should, especially for the cost.”

Renkus Heinz Grove City Church 2

Grove City Church of the Nazarene – known to congregants and locals as The Naz – has built a large and diverse congregation in this Columbus suburb. The church offers a mix of both contemporary and classic worship services, as well as hosting many conferences and concerts from touring Christian artists.

The Naz’s 2800-seat sanctuary has long struggled with sonic issues, including poor intelligibility and uneven coverage, and the church was more than ready to upgrade their sound system. Technical director Matt Groves and front of house sound engineer Doug McLaughlin undertook the job of researching possible solutions. “We looked at several major loudspeaker brands and invited several in to do demos for us,” he recalls. “They all sounded fine, but the Renkus-Heinz IC2 really stood out. They demonstrated the beam steering by putting us up in the balcony with the IC2 cabinet on stage. We could hear it just fine. Then he opens his laptop and says, ‘Watch this,’ and steers the speaker digitally so it’s hitting us directly upstairs. All of a sudden, boom, there it was, with unbelievable clarity. I looked at my front of house engineer and we both said, ‘That’s the one.’ It was the coolest thing.”

First Baptist Church Of El Reno Brings Versatility To Worship Stage With CHAUVET Professional

First Baptist Church in El Reno, OK_5Many of the worshippers at First Baptist Church of El Reno are very aware of their church’s rich history; as well they should be. Founded on October 12, 1890, when twelve people gathered to worship in what was then still the Oklahoma Territory, this dynamic house of worship, which now counts close to 600 members in its congregation, is one of the oldest and most storied in its state.

Powered flight, the automobile, radio, television, space shuttles, the Internet and countless other changes have altered the course of history since those dozen worshippers gathered in central Oklahoma on that October day, but through it all First Baptist Church of El Reno has remained relevant to the everyday lives of its members.

This is evident in the church’s calendar, which includes things like “Parent’s Night Out,” an event that allows couples to drop their children off at church so they can catch up on errands or enjoy a dinner together. It’s also very much on display on the church’s stage, which was designed to make worshippers feel at home in traditional and contemporary services, thanks in part to some flexible LED fixtures from CHAUVET Professional.
